Richard James Berryman
Past Chaplain
October 4, 1932 to January 27, 2014

BERRYMAN, Richard James, The Venerable Richard James, in his 82nd year, surrounded by family, was delivered into the loving arms of God on Monday, January 27, 2014 after an intense and determined battle with many physical challenges related to kidney disease. Deeply mourning the loss, is the love of his life for over 60 years, his wife Christine. He will be grievously missed by his devoted children, Anne Berryman (Greg), Mary Wellard (Len), Susan Jaskula (Ted) and Stephen Berryman (Mary). He was a loving Pop/Grandpa to Katie,
Rachel, Christine (Justin), Jenny and Victor, and Great-Grandfather to Morgan and Mason.

Richard was a respected Anglican priest for over 55 years and served several parishes throughout Ontario in the Dioceses of Niagara and Huron. He also worked as communications/media officer for the National Office of the Anglican Church of Canada in Toronto for several years. He was a gifted speaker and writer and wrote a weekly column in the Religious section of the Hamilton Spectator for 15 years. He also published several books on Theology and Spirituality. His greatest gift was the ability to find the love of God in every facet of life and to be able to communicate that message so profoundly. He had a passion for the north woods and fire fighting.

He served as a volunteer firefighter in Stoney Creek in the 1950's and again in Burlington for 15 years in the 70's and 80's.

He loved football, playing quarterback in university, and was a devoted Tiger Cats fan all his life. He was an active clergyman at, and parishioner of, Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton for 40 years and will be sincerely missed by everyone in that glorious community. Their support of him and the family has been infinite and invaluable. A heartfelt and profound gratitude goes out to Dr. Joan Krepinsky, PCN Ruby Askes and all the nephrology/ dialysis staff at St. Joseph's Hospital who contributed to his care over the past 10 years. They have been, without fail, exemplary in their care giving and an enormous wealth of support to Richard and the family in every possible way. Also a special thanks to the nurses on the 7th floor, nephrology unit who were nothing short of angels.

Our most beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, may you find eternal and profound peace with God, and all the love that now surrounds you until we can be together again. Thank you, for the gift of your life.
