Vandenakker, Albert 'Al'. At Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, The Lord took unto Himself his faithful servant Al, of Caledonia, in his 72nd year. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and best friend of 50 years, Jane (nee Bergsma), his children, Darlene and Dan Vander Kruk of Millgrove (Amanda; Chad and Stefanie; Emma), Helene and Henk Van Amerongen (Sara and Josh Okkema; Maxine) of Townsend and Sheri Vandenakker of Hamilton. Also surviving are Al's mother Anna Boers of Townsend, his siblings Lydia (John Vander Elst), Richard Vandenakker (Tina) and Jim Vandenakker (Elizabeth) all of California and Jane's siblings Ed Bergsma (Heather), Joanne (Fred West) and Jill (J.B. Vokes) all of British Columbia and Allana Bergsma of Stoney Creek. Al is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and many special friends.

 

Al served his community as a Platoon Chief with the Hamilton Fire Department retiring after 33 years of service.

 

Friends are invited to call at York Maranatha CRC on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Following a family graveside service at St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery, York, a Memorial Service will be held at York Maranatha CRC on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Donations to H.D.C.H. would be appreciated by the family.
