DOWNS, Orval July
17/1936 - July 21/2017 It is with heavy hearts that the family
of Orval Downs announces his passing on July 21, 2017 at the age
of 81 at Kilean Lodge, Grimsby. Dear son of the late Sam and
Olive (2000) and brother of Marvin, Waterdown. Beloved husband
of Joan for 61 years. Loving and cherished father of Kimberley,
Kelly (Austin) and Tom. Loving Papa to Tiffany (Derek) Jordan
(Mel), Karly (Brody), Cody (Alex), Dakota , Forrest, Taylor and
Hailey. Great-grandfather to Owen, Ryder, London, Knox, and
baby-to-be.
Heartfelt Thanks to all who cared for Orval
during his stay at Kilean Lodge for the past two years.
Orval was a proud Hamilton Firefighter for 8 years. He left the
department to pursue other interests. Orval was an excellent
cook and he always wanted his own restaurant. He opened O.J.'s
Place (Orval and Joan's) which he operated for 5 years. After
selling he worked for Brinks Armoured Car before becoming part
owner in a large security company, Hamilton Wentworth
Protection, he then took a management position with Burns
International Security. While working in the security field,
Orval volunteered with the Stoney Creek/Winona Fire
Department as an Acting Lieutenant for 9 years. Before retiring
in 2002.
Orval had spent 35 years in the security
business, where he enjoyed many memorable experiences and flew
many places for his company. During his career in security, he
mentored a very special young man, Ron Hazel who Orval thought
of as a second son.
Orval was loyal, honest, hard
working and a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather
and great-grandfather. (He also loved his many pets).
Cremation has taken place and as per Orval's wishes there will
be no funeral service. For those who wish, donations may be made
to the Alzheimer Society. |
