    After a brief illness, John died peacefully on November 21, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Karen, daughters Kerry Bracewell (David), Jennifer Matthews (Ken) and son-in-law Dave Gilmour. He will be greatly missed by his granddaughter Julia Pereira (Spencer), and great grandchildren Paisley and Parker. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents Fred and Margaret Matthews, siblings Margaret Kennington (Barry), Fred (Donna) and Gwen Ready, as well as in-laws Charles and Camilla Lewis.

John served with the Hamilton Fire Department for 31 years before retiring. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor and love of cooking. It was important to him that everyone around him was well fed.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 3rd floor at West Haldimand General Hospital for their care and support.

Cremation has taken place, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday December 8, 2024, at Macassa Bay Yacht Club in Hamilton, from 2pm to 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton SPCA or Hamilton Food Share would be appreciated by the family.
