Service Dates April 7, 1962 to October 31, 1993 |
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Ernest (Ernie) Louis
Graham Blundell, who died on September 9, 2024, at Shoreham Village in
Chester, Nova Scotia, at 81. Ernie was born on August 17, 1943, in Montreal, Quebec, to Kay Walker
(originally from Inverness, Cape Breton) and Arthur Blundell, an RAF
engineer from Oxfordshire, England. Ernie is lovingly remembered by his wife, Margie (Diamond). He is
survived by his children and stepchildren Candace Blundell, Stephanie
Hilson (Robert), Boyd Blundell, Diane Ballantyne, Heather Shedden, Diana
Forhan (Ben), and Peter Britten (Megan), as well as his cherished
grandchildren, Joshua (Mekiah), Aaron, Gracelyn, Avery, and Jack. Ernie
also leaves behind his little sister, Billie Marie Stringer (Cam), and
many beloved nieces and nephews. His second wife, Hilda (MacNeil), and his sister, Janice Leversuch,
predeceased him. Ernie served the Hamilton Fire Department for 32 years, rising to the
rank of District Chief. He took great pride in his service and deeply
valued the camaraderie and dedication of those he worked alongside. Upon retiring, Ernie remained committed to helping others. Whether
helping to establish a school in Kazakhstan, sending vital medical
equipment to Haiti, or simply offering transportation to those in his
community, Ernie’s generosity knew no bounds. An avid sportsman, Ernie played fast pitch and hockey at elite levels
but found his greatest joy on the golf course - any day that ended in
"Y" was a good day for a round of golf. All who knew him will deeply miss Ernie's warmth, kindness, pride,
and spirit. Ernie’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at
11:00 AM at St. Luke’s United Church, 5374 St Margarets Bay Rd, Upper
Tantallon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations directed to the Shoreham
Village or the Chester Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated. May his memory be a blessing, and may his smile radiate eternally.
