Passed away suddenly on Monday May 3rd after undergoing surgery
for a diabetes related condition at the General Hospital in the
City of Hamilton. He was in his 74th year. Don is survived by
his loving wife of over 50 years, Beryl Poplawski. Lovingly
remembered by his children, Andrea Poplawski, Josh Poplawski,
Steven Poplawski, and all his grandchildren.
Born in Hamilton Ontario, Don dedicated over three decades of
his life to being a professional fire fighter, until his
retirement in 1998. A constant provider to his family, which
included numerous dogs and rescued animals. Often described by
people who knew him as a “good guy”, who, with his wife Beryl,
dedicated many years to fostering displaced children in need of
a home.
In writing this, I remember that when I was a young child I
wanted to do swimming lessons but money was tight. My dad sold
his golf clubs to pay for my swimming. This is an example of
what being a “dad” means, and Don always put us first. He will
be both remembered and missed by all who knew him. In lieu of
flowers, donations to Diabetes research would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
