It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Derek Gerrard Guiney in his 87th year the morning of April 2nd, 2026. Derek passed away peacefully with family by his side bringing an end to his courageous and special life.

Derek was predeceased by the love of his life; his wife Margaret Jeanette Guiney (nee) Harrington of 55 years that he is now reunited with. Dearly loved father to Cindy (Dan) and Steve (Erin). Adored by grandchildren Corey, Tiffany (Dave), Jordan (Melisa), and Kaitlin (Dylan). He will be deeply missed by his great-grandchildren Mason, Jacob, Theo, and Brayden whom he was extremely proud of.

Derek showed immense strength throughout his life. He was born and lived in England during the Second World War. He worked up the courage to leave England and come live in Canada with his best friend at the young age of 18. Derek built a life for himself working with the City of Hamilton. He moved into his final career as a Hamilton Fire Fighter. Derek was modest about his career, but was recipient of Fire Fighter of the Year in 1986 for his heroic actions. He later retired in 1994 as a lieutenant and moved into being active in his families’ lives.

Friends and family are invited to Turner Family Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas, on Sunday, April 19th, from 1p.m. to 4p.m. for a Celebration of Derek’s Life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to Boots on the Ground Peer Support for First Responders
