HESP, Robert (Bob) David - It
is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) David Hesp
announces his passing on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in his 95th
year. Bob will be greatly missed by his loving wife and "first
mate" of 74 years Irene (nee Paquette), his son Dean, and his
grandsons Ryan and Andrew and great-grandson Nate.
Bob will be fondly remembered by his extended family,
sister-in-law Alice Stevens, Gordon (Mary Jane) Stevens, Roberta
( Paul) Harris, Anita Boucher, Kathy Jarred, Mitch (May) Wilson,
Dennis (Cathy) Wilson, Rick (Savitrie) Wilson, Marty (Kim)
Wilson, Glen Wilson, Mike (Donna) Wilson, Linda (Dave) Roberge
and Lisa (Greg) Phillips who all spent many happy moments with
Uncle Bob at the cottage, in Florida and at the many family
gatherings over the years.
Bob was born on June 6, 1921 in Bristol, England and immigrated
to Canada with his parents. Living on very little means, as was
the case for many in those days, Bob discovered his love for
music which remained an important part of his life throughout.
Most that knew him have many fond memories of his beautiful
singing voice, which he never hesitated to showcase. Bob joined
the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 18, to serve his country
during the second World War, which he did for the duration in
many campaigns in the Atlantic Theatre. On one of his infrequent
shore leaves, he married the love of his life Irene on September
12, 1942.
After serving his country, Bob came back to Hamilton to start a
family, and to serve his community as a firefighter with the
Hamilton Fire Department. Bob served in many capacities with the
dept, from 1947 to 1981, retiring as a Lieutenant.
In retirement, Bob lived the life that many of us can only
aspire to. Residing at his "Islands in the Sun"; his cottage on
Lake Erie for the summer and a home in Florida for the winter.
While also taking numerous adventures around the world with
Irene. Other than his family, the loves of his life were
singing, golfing, entertaining, driving and staying current with
the world by reading the paper every day front to back.
Robert
David Hesp was loved and respected by everyone he met. He was a
great man who lived a great life.
