Passed away at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 87th year, Alan Jack Mitchell (August 4, 1930 – January 8, 2017) of Hamilton, beloved husband of Joan Kilby Mitchell, father of Karen (Tom), Beverly (Jean) and Phil (Linda); brother of Ruth Borthwick of Burlington; beloved grandfather (Popo) of Kerry (Mario), Laura, Gregory (Samantha), Gabrielle, and Benoit; great-grandfather of Sofia and Lowell. Predeceased by his parents, Jack Mitchell and Gladys Middleton Mitchell.

  Alan was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, born and raised in the west end. He was a journeyman painter and decorator

Alan was a member of the Hamilton Fire Department for 32 years an 9 months.

  He was an ardent and unwavering loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 1940.  

Alan served as a role model and mentor to many young people in Hamilton having volunteered his time as a Cub Scout leader, baseball coach, and mentor with Big Brothers of Hamilton.
