MCARTHUR, Alan Alan
McArthur, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at
Juravinski Hospital after a brief illness.
Alan is
predeceased by his loving wife Joan (nee Crawford), brother Doug
and daughter Susan. He will be sadly missed by his sister
Violet; his daughters Terri Petrachek (Will) and Judy McCullough
(Chris); grandchildren Stephen (Kristen), Bradley, Kira (Mike),
Chris (Emily); and great-grandchildren Aysia, Mikaleigh,
Ainsley, Liam and Finn.
Alan had a very diverse career,
starting at Dofasco then moving on to serve as a Hamilton
Firefighter for many years, where he was known as "Mac", before
retiring as a teacher from the HWDSB.
He enjoyed many
sports, playing baseball with The Big Four as well as basketball
in his younger years. After his retirement, Alan also spent his
time on puzzles, calligraphy and his garden for which he was
awarded many Trillium Awards.
Alan was a fighter and
battled through many challenging experiences and illnesses in
his 84 years, but he remained quite strong to the very end.
Those who had the honour of knowing Alan will miss his sense of
humour, his knowledge of current events and literature as well
as his great pride in, and care for, his family.
At
Alan's request, cremation has taken place however the family
invites you for a small reception to share in the celebration of
Alan's life at L.G. WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 151 Ottawa St. N.,
Hamilton (905-544-1147) on Saturday, May 19th from 2-4 p.m.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
Should friends desire, contributions may be directed to the
Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) at 569 Concession St., Hamilton,
ON L8V 1B2 on behalf of Alan. Many thanks to the doctors,
especially Dr. Love, and the nurses in E3 for making his last
days comfortable.
